“They Should Resign,” Gavaskar Slams Aussie Selectors For Silly Mistakes In Choosing The Squad
The Australian cricket team may have made a terrific comeback in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 by winning the third test match which was played at Holkar Stadium, Indore, but still there are many who are not happy with the performance of the Australian players in the first two test matches which were won by India.
There is no denying the fact that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is one of the most watched test series and it takes India-Australia rivalry to the top level in test cricket but this time, the Australian media and few former cricketers tried their best to create controversies by leveling allegations against India in relation to pitches. The Aussie media went to the extent of calling the Nagpur pitch doctored but some former Aussie cricketers (such as Allan Border, Matthew Hayden, etc.) have also left no stone unturned in slamming the cricketers from the current Australian squad. Nevertheless, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that the Aussie selectors are the real culprits.
In a column, Little Master writes that though former Aussie cricketers are targeting the Australian cricketers but it should be the selectors who should be targeted instead of the players. He elaborates by writing how they can select three players (Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Cameron Green) when they knew that these three would not be playing the first two test matches for sure and this means that for half of the series, the management was selecting only 11 players out of 13.
Sunil Gavaskar further wrote that if this was not enough, they flew in Matthew Kuhnemann, a newcomer despite the fact that they already had a similar player in the squad. He further asked why that player was selected in the first place if they believed that he is not good enough to be a part of the team. Sunil Gavaskar is pretty clear with his opinion that the selectors should resign even if the Australian cricket team manages to win the fourth test match and levels the series by 2-2.
As of now, India is leading by 2-1 and the hosts need to win the fourth and the final test match at any cost if they want to keep their chances of playing the WTC final alive. The fourth test match will start from March 9 and it will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
