“Virat Has Made A Personal Choice & It’s Not Too Much To Ask For,” Farokh Engineer Backs Kohli

//

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been trolled a lot in the recent past for taking paternity leave and coming back to India for the birth of his first child which is due in the month of January. He was targeted more when team India suffered a humiliating defeat in the first test match and what made the fans angrier was the shameful fact that the squad got all out for just 36 which is its lowest total score ever in the test matches.

Many former cricketers have defended Virat Kohli, asking people to respect his decision and not to target him just because India lost the first test match as he informed the board about it even before the tour started.

Now former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer has also come out in support of the Indian skipper and said that he doesn’t agree with the trolling. He further asks haters as to why Virat Kohli should get trolled, only because he wants to be with his wife when she gives birth to their first child, this is not something which is too much to ask for.

While talking to a sports portal, the former Indian cricketer says that he is father of four kids but he was never with his wife during the birth of any of their children as every time, he was on an international tour. Farokh Engineer also recalled that the information of his first child’s birth was given to him by the Queen in the long room at the Lord’s. He further added that this doesn’t use to happen in those days but it certainly doesn’t mean that it should not happen even now.

Farokh Engineer says that he is not against Virat Kohli for the choice that he has made of being with his family but at one fell swoop, he also adds that if he had been in his place, he would have chosen to play for the country, especially after not doing well in the first test match. He feels that it is a modern trend and it is about the age difference.

Farokh Engineer made his debut in the year 1961 and played till 1975 and in this duration, he represented country in 46 test matches and 5 ODIs.

After Virat Kohli’s return, many former cricketers were of the opinion that Australia would clean sweep the series but the visiting team made a strong comeback under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahana and proved everyone wrong by winning the Boxing Day test match by 8 wickets.

The third test match will start on January 7, 2021, and most probably Rohit Sharma will also be a part of the team. Now it will be interesting to see who Hitman will replace. What do you think?
