Sunil Gavaskar Has A Superb Piece Of Advice For Virat Kohli To Improve His Form Against England
England was in a pretty strong position at the end of the day one of the third test match against India which is being played at Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds. The toss was won by the visitors and they chose to bat first, the decision backfired as the whole Indian team could not even manage to touch the 100 run mark and was back in pavilion at the score of just 78 runs. In response, England had a solid start and by the end of the day one, the English side had scored 120 runs without losing any wicket with both the openers – Rory Joseph Burns (52) and Haseeb Hameed (60) at the crease.
As far as the Indian batting is concerned, only two Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma (19) and Ajinkya Rahane (18) were able to score in double digits and one of the biggest concerns was that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli once again failed to get a big score as he got out at only 7 runs. In the contest between the England pacer James Anderson and Virat Kohli, the former once again emerged as the winner as Anderson dismissed Kohli for the seventh time in the purest format of the game. In this series against England, Virat Kohli has scored 0, 42, 20 and 7 runs till now and he has not been able to score a century for the past two years as his last century came in November 2019.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar appears to be quite concerned about Virat Kohli as he has been heard saying on Sony Sports Network that he is worried about Virat as now he is getting out at the fifth, sixth and seventh stump while in 2014, he was losing his wicket more around the off-stump.
The legendary former Indian cricketer was quite clear while saying that the Indian skipper should make a call to the former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as soon as possible and ask him what to do in the present scenario.
Sunil Gavaskar also referred to the knock of Sachin Tendulkar which he played in 2004 in Sydney; Master Blaster scored 241 runs in that match and what was special about this knock was that Little Master didn’t play a cover drive in the whole innings. Sunil Gavaskar further said that Virat Kohli should also tell himself repeatedly while batting that he would not play cover drive.
In 2014, when Virat Kohli was going through a tough phase on the England tour, he took help from Sachin Tendulkar for getting his form back and in the same year, he was appointed as the skipper of the test team after MS Dhoni announced his retirement.
Hopefully, Virat Kohli will listen to the advice of Sunil Gavaskar which might improve his performance.
