KL Rahul Reveals His Conversation With Virat Kohli & His Reaction To Sudden Captaincy On SA Tour
The young Indian cricketer KL Rahul will be leading the new IPL team Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022 and though he has already led Punjab Kings earlier, his stint as a skipper over there was not a very successful one. So he will certainly hope to give better results in the IPL this year and in a recent interview, he also talked about how he felt when he was suddenly asked to lead the Indian team in the second test match of the series on the South African tour.
KL Rahul who was already the vice-captain of the team stated that though as a vice-captain, a player prepares himself slowly as he knows that he will get to fulfill the big responsibility one day but he never expected that he would get the chance to lead the squad so soon. He says that in the morning of the game, the then skipper Virat Kohli came to him and said that he would have to lead the side as Virat was having back issue.
KL Rahul further said that it didn’t affect his mindset much as while playing, every cricketer is a captain in his own way, thinking about the various situations as a skipper. He adds that it’s certainly a great and proud moment when that word “C” comes in the team list as this is an honour which not everyone gets and he was very happy when he was announced as the skipper of the team.
In that series, India was leading by 1-0 and victory in the second test match would have resulted in India winning the series but unfortunately, India lost the test match by seven wickets and KL Rahul’s captaincy career started with a loss. As per KL Rahul, it was very challenging as they were playing against the South African team in South Africa, and the match was full of ups and downs but the South African cricketers played better and held their nerves in the crucial moments. He added that it was not a good start to his career as a captain but he enjoyed those 4-5 days and learned a lot during that period.
Virat Kohli came back in the third test match but the team lost that game which resulted in India losing the series as well. After this series, Virat resigned from the post of India’s test skipper and presently Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian test team.
The IPL 2022 is going to start from March 26 and all eyes will be on two new teams and their skippers. Are you excited for the biggest tournament?
